Three games that got it almost right.
SantosRP had you invested in a world. PERP gave you an economy worth fighting over. GTA RP proved millions would pay to live a second life online. None of them had the engine to do it justice. s&box does.
You are a Citizen. Nothing else.
No job menus. No shortcuts. You arrive as a Citizen with nothing and build from there. Every interaction happens in the world — through NPC characters you walk up to, workbenches you use, shops you physically enter. The world is the interface.
Want to drive rideshare during the day and run a weed farm at night? Nothing stops you. NEXT doesn't lock you into a path. The economy is player-driven and your character is yours to define.
Take RYDE — our player-run rideshare platform. There's no taxi job. Instead, a player can apply to become CEO of RYDE, hire drivers, manage pricing and build a business inside the city. Someone else might be a RYDE driver while also running a crafting operation on the side. That's how this works.
Some careers require an application. They carry real responsibility and have real hierarchies. You don't select a rank from a menu — you earn it through time served, reviews, and the people above you deciding you're ready.
Built for the World
Custom map designed around how players actually move. Not ported, not template-fitted. Designed with NEXT in mind from the start.
Menu-Free
Every interaction happens in the world through NPCs and physical locations. The city is the interface. No tab menus, no job lists.
Player-Run Politics
The Mayor is voted in by the population. City council members govern. The law has real consequences for everyone in it.
Legal Foundation
MoatRP is forming as a registered company in Sweden. Transparent finances, real accountability, long-term structure.
No Pay-to-Win
Cosmetics only. No advantages available for money. Written into the company foundation, not a server rule someone can quietly change later.
s&box Playfund
Moving early means qualifying for Facepunch's creator monetization program. A sustainable revenue model built into the platform.
MoatRP started as a server. It grew into a community I'm genuinely proud of. But I've always known where this was heading.
We explored running on top of existing platforms. The restrictions are real — s&box is still evolving and a lot of what we'd want to do is simply locked away when you build on someone else's codebase. The path that actually makes sense is owning what we build. From the ground up.
That's what NEXT is. A custom s&box gamemode with a focused development team, backed by a properly registered company in Sweden. Real structure, real accountability, real ownership. Not a side project — the project.
If you've ever wanted to be part of something from day one, this is that moment.
What is s&box Playfund? We need developers.
NEXT is built on s&box — Facepunch's next-generation game engine built on C# and Razor. If you've worked with C# before, you're already closer than you think. s&box uses a modern entity-component system and ships with a full editor, so the tooling is there. What we need is the people.
You'll be building the systems that make NEXT work — economy, crafting, jobs, skills, world interactions. Target-based delivery. Paid work.
s&box uses Razor and CSS for in-game UI. You'll design and build the interfaces players actually use — HUDs, shops, menus, identity screens.
Development is target-based with milestones agreed upfront. We're not looking for free labor — we're building a company and we treat our people like it. If you're passionate about roleplay and know your way around a codebase, we want to talk.
Express InterestContributing to NEXT isn't just a donation — it's a stake in what gets built. Beta access is reserved exclusively for people who backed the project.
NEXT will be built regardless. Funding lets us move faster, pay contributors fairly, and deliver a better product. If you can back it, great. If not, just show up when it launches.
